Memorial Day: Sunday Table

There’s something about a Memorial Day table that feels extra nostalgic — the mix of gingham, hydrangeas, little American flags, and the kind of slow gathering that turns into staying around the table longer than planned. For this week’s Sunday Table, I wanted to create something that felt classic and unfussy, but still layered and intentional.

I started with a red, white, and blue plaid tablecloth as the foundation, then softened everything with scalloped linens, woven flower placemats, and simple blue-and-white dishes. The hydrangeas became the focal point of the table — tucked into a striped vase with miniature flags for a playful, vintage-inspired touch that felt very “summer at home.”

What I loved most about this setting is that nothing felt overly formal. It’s the kind of table that works just as well for burgers and watermelon as it would for a full holiday dinner. Cozy, relaxed, and a little nostalgic — exactly how I think Memorial Day weekend should feel.
